GDP Monthly Estimate: February 2025

UK GDP rose by 0.5% in February, surpassing expectations

  • UK GDP grew by 0.5% in February 2025, following flat growth (0.0%) in January 2025.
  • Real GDP grew by 0.6% in the three months to February, primarily due to growth in the services sector.
  • Services output rose by 0.3% in February, following a 0.1% increase in January. In the three months to February, it is estimated to have grown by 0.6%. The largest contributions came from administrative and support services (+1.9%), wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.0%), and information and communication (+1.6%).
  • Consumer-facing services increased by 0.7% in February, driven by wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+3.0%) and food and beverage services (+2.1%). In three months to February, they rose by 0.6%.
  • The production sector grew by 1.5% in February, reversing a 0.5% fall in January. Manufacturing (+2.2%) was the main contributor. In the three months to February, production output is estimated to have grown by 0.7%.
  • Construction output increased by 0.4% in February after falling by 0.3% in January. The growth was driven by new work (+0.3) and repair and maintenance (+0.5).
  •  GDP was 1.4% higher in February 2025 compared to February 2024.
