GfK Consumer Confidence Index August 2023

• GfK’s Consumer Confidence Index increased five points in July to -25 

• All five measures were up compared with last month.

General economic situation 

• Consumers’ measure of the general economic situation over the last 12 months is up six points at -58. This is 16 points higher than the same month a year ago. 

• Expectations for the general economic situation over the coming 12 months increased by three points to -30. This is 30 points higher than the same month a year ago.

 Personal finances 

• The personal finances index covering the last twelve months increased five points to -15, ten points better than a year ago.

• The forward-looking measure for personal finances over the next twelve months increased four points to -3, which is 28 points higher than the same time last year.

Major purchases 

• The Major Purchase Index increased eight points to -24. This is 14 points higher than the same month a year ago.

Savings Index (not included in the overall measure) 

• The Savings Index increased one point to +27. This is nine points higher than a year ago.
