GfK Consumer Confidence Index January 2025

  • The GfK Consumer Confidence Index fell five points to -22 in January, as consumer perceptions of the economy dropped low.
  • All five measures were down compared to December.

General economic situation

  • Consumer perceptions of the general economic situation over the last 12 months dropped seven points to -46, five points lower than January 2024.
  • Expectations for the general economic situation over the next 12 months dropped eight points to -34, 13 points lower than January 2024.

Personal finances 

  • The personal finances index over the past 12 months decreased by three points to -10, two points better than January 2024.
  • Expectations for personal finances over the next 12 months went down three points to -2, two points lower than the same month last year.

Major purchases

  • The Major Purchase Index is down four points to -20, the same as this month last year.

Savings Index (not included in the overall measure)

  • The Savings Index has jumped nine points to +30, a three-point improvement from this time last year.
