Halifax House Price Index March 2024

  • Property prices in the UK grew by 0.3% year-on-year, compared to 1.6% last month. The rise reflects the easing cost of living squeeze and relatively high interest rates, though prices have remained relatively stable over the past couple of years.
  • House prices rose by 2.0% on the previous quarter.
  • The average house price fell by -1.0% in March on a monthly basis, following a 0.3% rise in February.
  • The typical UK home now costs £288,430, approximately £2,900 less than last month. 
  • Northern Ireland remains the strongest performing nation or region in the UK, with house prices up by +4.3% annually, costing an average of £194,743. 
  • In England, a north/south divide exists, with the North West seeing the strongest growth (+3.7% annually), while Eastern England recorded the biggest decline (-0.9% annually).
